Living with the Notes 8 Beta

I've been running the beta as my primary client since it was released. So I have spent a fair amount of time working with it. I'm using the eclipse ("standard") version only, because I'm just not that interested in the "basic" - or non-eclipse - version.

Aside: Those two terms - basic and standard - don't make sense to me. They both mean normal, plain, regular - most definitely not the higher end solution. So telling which one truly IS the higher end seems trickier than it needs to be (hint: it's the one IBM wants to become a "standard" within your organization).

I've been quiet about the beta here because I was compiling all of my feedback into a couple of long lists (yes, they're called "Things I Like" and the "Things I Don't Like" - I'm clever like that). But I have posted several comments on the forum. Typically, I post things on the forum when I want to make sure IBM knows about them, either because I think there's a real bug involved or because I think they should reconsider something they've chosen to do. The lists I will post here include quite a few things I didn't bother adding to the forum for one reason or another (sometimes they were known issues).

Since my lists have gotten pretty long, I've decided to split them up into separate posts. That means this post will be practically empty. Sorry about that. Heh...

So far I've been working almost exclusively with the client. I haven't brought up an 8 server, I haven't played with the Admin client, and I haven't done any development. So there is also a list of things I haven't tried. Yet. I'm not gonna write those all down, though.

1 - They are both excellent lists and pretty much match my own. In a way I find this heartening, it's a managable set of bugs / change requests which should be possible to deal with before going gold.

Like you I've switched and only go back to 7 where I have no choice (i.e. working on client sites where I'm saving design elements). The only addition for me is that I am lusting after the 8.0.1 Mac client as well Emoticon

2 - Oh, I'm lusting after the Mac client as well, Matt. No question. I just consider it moot, because IBM warned us at Lotusphere, so I didn't list it. I did all my whining back then, so I'm not gonna complain about it anymore. If it doesn't make 8.01, though, all bets (and gloves) are off! heh...
