Sphere!
You know you're at Lotusphere when ...
... hanging around in a hotel lobby is actually fun, because friends are flying in from all over the world and more are showing up every minute.
... you run into Alan Lepofsky outside the restroom in Orlando airport and he says, "I saw your Facebook update saying you were at Logan waiting to board the plane, and I was using it to show a colleague how cool this stuff is - saying, look, I can find a partner I didn't even know was going to be here, isn't that great? And then we couldn't find you after all." And you wind up thinking, hm, the interface between the online world and the real world is still a bit fuzzy, there must be a geeky solution for this.
... people are Twittering every possible little detail of their trips and pointing it to the Lotusphere Twitter group, because, well, we can.
... Disney buses are lit by the glow of shiny iPhones, and the great debate rages about what IBM's announcement of Notes mail support for iPhone really means. I have it on excellent authority (no, completely non-IBM) that we're talking about DWA optimized for Safari on iPhone, as opposed to a native iPhone notes mail app or Exchange-like push email. But I also heard something very interesting about Apple's use of Notes that makes me wonder, and have hopes for the longer term.
... a great deal of Guinness is being drunk, by people who are perfectly well aware that it isn't nearly as good as it would be in Ireland.
A quick note for people who don't have the ability to read my mind: Yes, I am speaking at Lotusphere again this year. I am still lucky enough to be sharing a session with Julian Robichaux. Rather than a session about error logging, we're talking about reporting and graphing from within Notes and Domino. The session is: BP210, Reports, Graphs, and Charts in IBM Lotus Notes, Wednesday from 3-4 in Swan 5-6.
And the interesting news is that it WILL be recorded and available for sale on a DVD. Since the time slot conflicts with some fantastic sessions, people who are struggling with the choice of which session to attend might check out the DVD ordering form. You can see our session after Lotusphere on DVD, but some of the other great sessions in that time slot are not being recorded, so you'd have to see them live. Not that I want a small audience, but I know several people have expressed concerns about that time slot already, and maybe the information will help someone out.
Now I'm off to BALD (Bloggers and friends Annual Lotusphere Dinner) at the brew pub on the Boardwalk. I saw a lot of people already, between last night and this afternoon, but still more are arriving constantly, and it will be great to see them.
